Instructor Information

ETN MODULAR COURSE OF STUDY INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION

  1. ETN Course instructors will know and understand the Mission Statement of the Church of the Nazarene and the East Tennessee District.
  2. Agree that while living in the spirit of academic freedom, to live in harmony with the Articles of Faith of the Church of the Nazarene, the doctrine and standard of the Church of the Nazarene -a holiness church in the Wesleyan-Arminian Biblical foundations.
  3. Understand and follow the guidelines of the best practices of the applicable Copyright policy laws.
  4. Practice the discipline of being a life-long learner to include the pursuit of continuing education credits as specified in the current Manual of the Church of the Nazarene; attending professional conferences, seminars, of both Denominational and district events; by attending additional educational institutions in the pursuit of graduate and post-graduate degrees.
  5. Be an encourager to colleagues and students who desire to achieve further education and degrees beyond the basic requirements for Ordination in the Church of the Nazarene.
  6. Establish in the first class meeting the future dates and times as well as session length to achieve the eighteen (18) hours required by the Ministerial preparation Module Courses.
  7. Because of the importance of core beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene expressed in our Statement of Belief and the Articles of Faith in the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene, each instructor will connect and incorporate the Articles of Faith to the Modular Course being taught. This is vital sincethe District Boards charged with examining candidates for ordination will be interviewing each candidate regarding courses and the Articles of Faith.  We are required to implement this reset with the 2018 -2019 assembly year.
  8. To accomplish item 7, each instructor is to have a printed or electronic copy of the special edition of “Nazarene Essentials” and the current Manual of the Church of the Nazarene.
  9. Proper Instructor and class member accountability is expected. Class members are to understand the gravity and “uniqueness” of a Call of God to preach His Word and become involved in ministry in His Kingdom.  We acknowledge that each module contains far more teaching and learning information than can be properly done in the time allotted.  Therefore, the instructor must teach the most important information while highlighting that which the student must study on their own future time.   Instructors are cautioned not to overload the students with extra exams, written papers, etc. Be considerate of the time and priorities of the Student who may be beyond college age and have full-time employment while pursuing educational requirements for ordination and the Christian pastorate.
  10.  The ETN Ministerial Studies Board, and its instructors, commit themselves to equipping each student to become a Christian witness and servant-leader who will demonstrate:
  •  effective communication skills in listening, speaking, and writing.
  • critical thinking skills necessary to interact effectively in a culturally diverse and increasingly pluralistic world.
  • skills in biblical exposition that accurately reflect the content and meaning of Scripture.
  • a biblically-formed worldview, integrating the Christian faith with general educational content.
  • a pattern of lifelong learning.
  • personal discipline in one’s care for body, mind, and spirit.
  • a devoted relationship with Christ.
  • a life of Christian holiness in community.
  •  leadership in a variety of ministry contexts.
  • effective service within the context of modern society.
  •  a commitment to global evangelism.
  •  a full understanding of the Articles of Faith stated in the Church of the Nazarene Manual.
